pretty lousy May 7, 2010 Michael J. Villanella (surprise, az) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
So it works. It does freeze once in a while. I can actually hear it play on the TV and through the player itself. Itis really cheap good as a gift but that is about it.
noty to good October 26, 2009 Randy (dodge city kansas) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought the coby 233 at a grocery store. I had read all the bad reviews on this black one and the silver one. My logic was that the 233 line came out in 2007. I hoped by now they may have corrected the problems. I was wrong I guess. My unit was fine at first, quiet and a above average progressive scan picture. Then I began to notice slight freezes in the playback. Then it froze all at once. The only way to make it play again was to unplug it for a few minutes then start over. Now it locks up on every disc I play about twenty minutes into the film. I just sat in my chair as everyone left the room to snicker at me for buying it. I packed up the unit to return today. Coby is a big company, thier thing is electronics at good prices, but why bother to make a poor item like this. I was so down I didnt get another one to try, so maybe the next one would have been great but I couldnt take the risk...I just couldnt do it.
Worst DVD Player ever April 10, 2010 Mary Ann Martorana (Sacramento CA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I had a silver metal coby DVD player that actually lasted a couple of years before it froze and would no longer recognize the disk. Since it was the right size and only $29 I thought I'd order another one. This one was black plastic and so light and cheaply made I couldn't believe it. As soon as I started using it it immediately froze a few minutes into the movie and I had to start over. After I played a couple of movies it froze completely and will no longer recognize any DVD's. Obviously the laser that reads the disk is the cheapest of the cheap and just wears out immediately. This piece of junk will be going in the trash can along with the other one. I will never order Coby again. It's chinese made cheap garbage.
broke in 4 months after playing only 3 dvds August 12, 2009 a reader (United States) I bought this for a tv we have that we almost never watch dvds from. I disliked the unit immediatel because it's remote only worked from about 6 feet away (if that). Then, after 4 months (right out of warranty) the thing stopped working altogether. I know this is an inexpensive unit but 3 dvds? I tried several to make sure it wasn't just dirty DVDs, etc.. Seriously low quality here.
